UPDATE #3: We are sad to say that the woman injured in this house fire, whose name is being withheld by authorities, succumbed to her injuries Saturday night.
UPDATE #2: The woman treated by EMS received burns to her face, scalp, and nasal passages. All residents of the home have been displaced and Red Cross is providing aid.
UPDATE: The Red Cross just arrived to offer their assistance.
Just a little after 12:00pm this afternoon, a house fire broke out in what appears to be a bedroom of 3320 Delaware Avenue. Smoke poured from the windows. The Richmond Fire Department, Engines 15 (1st Ave.), 14 (Hawthorne Ave.) and 10 (Hermitage Rd.), responded lighting fast and got the situation under control right away. Everyone got out of the house, including the family dog. EMS was there tending to an elderly woman who resides in the home, who it seems was smoking in bed with an oxygen tank at the time the fire broke out.
These are my (Melissa) across-the-street neighbors. Please keep them in your thoughts during what I am sure is a very scary and nerve-wracking experience.
